Binky was a less geeky imitation of Archie who had a long run from the forties to sixties, but didn't survive beyond
that. Scooter started out as a British pop star who had unusual adventures but flagging sales turned his comic book into yet
another Archie clone, with blonde and brunette girlfriends no less (a la Archie – and Binky). Other characters who tried
to draw away some of Archie's huge sales included Ernie, Wilbur, Stevie (Mazie's boyfriend), Andy Hardy (from the movies)
and The Kilroys, whose adventures focused on the girl-chasing exploits of the son (see home page). Many years later the New
Kids of the Block singing group got their own cartoon show and comic book; the stories were very much along Archie lines,
with adoring, lipstick-wearing – and smearing – gals chasing after their heroes.
